Common questions

How many free scans do I get?

Five per month, and they stay free. The count resets on the first of each month (UTC). No account is needed to use them.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Plants in Pocket has no login, no sign-up, and no password. Your saved plants live on your device.

What does Premium include, and what does it cost?

Premium includes 125 scans and 60 follow-up questions per ISO calendar week, plus multi-photo checkups. The monthly subscription price is shown in your local currency before purchase. Weekly allowances reset Monday at 00:00 UTC. Free use includes five scans per calendar month and two questions per scan.

How do I cancel Premium?

Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and select Plants in Pocket. You can also reach this from the Premium screen in the app by tapping Manage in App Store Settings. Cancelling stops the renewal, and Premium stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.

I subscribed, but the app still shows the free limit

Open the Premium screen and tap Restore Purchases. If it still does not appear, check that you are signed in to the same Apple Account that made the purchase, then email us.

The identification looks wrong

It happens, and the app tries to be honest about it by showing a confidence level and listing alternates when it is unsure. A few things that help: fill more of the frame with the plant, get an even light without harsh shadows, and include a leaf close up rather than the whole room. If you have Premium, a multi-photo checkup lets the app look at several angles at once.

If it is confidently wrong, please email us the plant name it gave and what it actually was. That is genuinely useful to us.

Is my photo saved anywhere?

Photos go to Cloudflare and OpenAI for analysis. Our server does not save photo bytes. Explicitly saved plants, check-ins and discovery photos stay on your device. Text scan results have a ten-minute recovery window; provider retention and database backups are described in the privacy policy.

How do I delete my data?

Open the About screen in the app and use the erase action, which removes all saved plants, thumbnails, cached profiles, and progress from your device. You can also delete individual plants, or delete the app to remove its local data.

A scan failed or timed out

A slow response is different from being offline. Keep the app open while it checks for the existing result. Recovery does not start another analysis or use another allowance. If a request's outcome is unknown, starting a new scan can use another allowance; a timeout does not prove the original analysis failed. A temporary busy message is not your monthly allowance being used up.

How do check-ins and care schedules work?

Open a saved plant and choose Check in. Saving the new result adds its photo to the journal. Care intervals begin as suggestions: confirm them for your plant and check the soil before watering. You can postpone tasks, undo an accidental completion, and keep reminders off. A recovery plan records an action and follow-up date; it does not diagnose a disease.

Can someone else care for my plant?

Open its plant-sitter card, confirm the instructions you want to share, and use the share sheet. Sharing is your choice; recipients control their copies.

Are the toxicity notes reliable?

Treat them as a starting point, not a diagnosis. If a pet or a person has eaten part of a plant, call your vet, your doctor, or a poison control line straight away rather than relying on an app. For the same reason we never tell you a plant is safe to eat.

Reminders and widgets

Saved plants can have care reminders, which are optional and one time rather than repeating nags. You can add a Plants in Pocket widget to your Home Screen or Lock Screen to see what care is due today. Add it by touching and holding your Home Screen, tapping the plus button, and searching for Plants in Pocket.
